Priyah Ratnakumar is a Veena artist from Toronto, ON, Canada. She is currently a student at Veenalayam Temple of Music which is directed by her mother Srimathy Jeyanthe Ratnakumar. Priyah has completed her Veena arangetram in the year 2017, and she is currently receiving advanced training from “Kalaimamani” Rajhesh Vaidhya.
Her passion towards the veena has immensely given her opportunities to perform all around the GTA as well as India and Sri Lanka to name a few. Priyah has had the great honour to perform at the prestigious music festival, Chennaiyil Thiruvaiyaaru in December 2018. To name some of Priyah’s accomplishments, she has received the title “Yazhisai Chudaroli” from the legendary dancer Shri Madurai R. Muralidaran for her participation in his production “Dhimahi”. Priyah has also been a consistent winner at the grand Cleveland Thyagaraja Aradhana festival, where she won first place prizes in the Veena senior categories. Her dedication towards this art form has led her to perform in front of both India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi as well as former Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper in the year 2015.
Priyah is currently a student at York University studying Political Science.
